Man admits porn and rape charges

A Notts man has been jailed for 8 years for downloading images of child pornography and raping a young girl.

Matthew Adlard, 30, was told by a judge at Nottingham Crown Court the worst of the images were "appalling" and the abuse of the girl had been "vile".

Adlard, of Derwent Avenue, Newark, pleaded guilty to 16 specimen counts of making indecent images.

His computer was seized when police went to a Newark pub 'The Lord Griffin,' where he was living and his wife was the manageress.

No prior convictions

Adlard, who uses a wheelchair, had been disabled following an industrial accident 6 years ago.

He appeared at court by video link from Lincoln Prison, where he had been remanded since last November.

In mitigation it was said he had no prior convictions.

Judge Jonathan Teare said he appreciated prison would be harder for Adlard than for an able-bodied person.
